For over 55 years, Seton Center has brought hope to Northern Frederick County. But we couldn't do it without people like you willing to share your treasures, your time, and your talents to help life our neighbors out of poverty. Now that we've expanded our service area, we need your partnership more than ever.
Our mission is to work with our neighbors to build a hopeful future, in the Spirit of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, through a focus on the well-being of the whole person.
Many of the families we serve are working people living at or below the poverty or ALICE Report income levels. Often, people who work hard to be self-sufficient find that even a minor emergency can result in unpaid bills or loss of housing.

John has been a treasured member of the community for decades. He was known for bringing his Golden Retrievers to the nursing home for regular visits to brighten up the residents’ day. He even received a notable award for his service.
Recently, John came for help with his heating bill. He had applied for Energy Assistance, but there were long delays in processing his application and once approved, the allotment he should have received was reduced due to lack of funds.
John’s 115-year-old home is heated by oil. With reduced assistance and a fixed income, it became almost impossible for him to heat his home. But our program manager, Merri, was able to secure a donation of 125 gallons of fuel. We were also able to assist him with his electric bill.
Janae is a hard-working single mom with 3 children. When her son was seriously injured in a freak accident, she was forced to take time off her job to care for him. As a result of medical expenses, a rate increase on her utility bill, and her high rent, Janae was barely scraping by.
She came to Seton Center anxious and stressed, worried they’d be evicted. We were able to assist her with her rent, keeping her and her children in their home. We also helped her apply for Holiday Helping Hands, ensuring she and her children had a hot meal for the holidays and gifts under the tree.
Janae is just one of the many ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households we serve. She works, but her wages are barely enough to cover living expenses, which keep rising. As the Social Services Hub for Northern Frederick County and beyond, Seton Center is committed to being a beacon of hope for our community.
